An Introduction
April 5, 2008

I feel it’s only fitting that my first post should be an introduction of both this blog and it’s author. My name is Hunter Jensen, and I’m the CEO of Barefoot Solutions. I was born and raised in Virginia Beach, VA. My childhood home fostered in me an east coast work ethic and a love of the water. I attended the University of Virginia and graduated with a double major in Economics and Philosophy. In college I subsidized the very reasonable tuition payments and the completely outrageous fraternity dues with my freelance PHP programming. By my fourth year, I had already built a small business around my programming, and even had one programmer working under me. It was clear to me that this was to be my path after college.

So I graduated, packed my Tahoe, and drove three thousand miles to San Diego, CA. Business license, LLC filing, office space, and most of the other necessities were soon to follow. I found my niche in what is ultimately a non-niche – totally custom web development. Rather than specializing in Drupal or dotProject as some of my friends and colleagues have successfully done, I decided that the real bleeding edge comes not from forcing a round peg in a square hole, but creating the 7-sided, five dimensional space that is the perfect solution to a problem. That type of work excites and challenges me almost every day.

So at Barefoot Solutions we specialize in custom web application development for startups and small to medium sized businesses. I love being able to get my hands dirty in all kinds of different industries. From adult sports leagues in San Diego, to asset and inventory management for medical device companies, I’ve been involved in a large swath of different businesses and learned a few things along the way.

And it is these little nuggets of wisdom that I will write about. This blog will include my experiences with and musings on business, technology, and law. Anyone interested in those areas might glean something useful from my posts. As I continue to grow my business, I will write about the challenges, failures, and successes I encounter. I will also write about current trends in technology, without getting too technical. Finally I will write some about law, but only how it relates to business and technology. I’m not a lawyer but I play one on TV.

I would like to thank the three or four people who, out of some social or familial obligation, decided to read this. Please post comments if you are so compelled. Thanks, and enjoy – Hunter.
